Zwart Water

During my seminar Zwart Water, I explored ways to visualize water using the water itself. I didn’t just rely on photographs I took; I also created patterns with the water directly.

In doing so, water became an active participant in the process. It played a role in the creation of the artwork. It wasn’t just me making the art—it was a collaboration, a connection with the water.

I chose this approach because water is a source of life. It's essential not only to animals and plants, but to us humans as well. With this project, I wanted to highlight its presence, showcase its capabilities, and take time to truly connect with it.

This idea became the foundation for my installation. I created a space where water takes center stage presented almost like holy water. Visitors are invited to pour water into a bowl, engage with texts that reflect on my personal relationship with water, and stand among the prints I created in collaboration with the water itself.

These water prints are both a record of that connection and a symbol of what it means to create with nature rather than apart from it. Because living with water isn’t just necessary it’s beautiful.

Dans
Dans met me, water
Als een golf die langzaam breekt
Daar tegen de kade

De dans die alles geeft
O, dans met me, water
Laat me draaien in je kolken

Maar hou me stevig vast
Want alleen samen wil ik dansen
De hele nacht lang

Vaststaan is losgaan

Vaststaan
Water dat me losmaakt

Met m’n benen over straat
En m’n hoofd laag

Op zoek naar water
Om gedachten te laten drijven

Blikken die niet vredig kijken
Allemaal met hun hoofd omlaag

Zoekend op straat
Naar water
Dat ook hén losmaakt

Vrij zijn

Dat je rijkelijk mag vloeien
Geen dag die nog op je wacht

Ik zal me door jou laten sturen
Water langs het zand

Je zet me even stil
Laat de geluidsgolven varen

Jij bepaalt de uren
Ik wijs alleen nog de weg
