Reeflight

For this lamp, I was inspired by coral reefs. I was deeply struck by how coral reefs are rapidly disappearing, and how few people are aware of the scale of this loss. I wanted to find a way to protect coral.

To do this, I began researching coral and decided to focus on bringing more attention to it. My goal was to give coral a place in people's homes and in their hearts. This inspiration led me to create a light object, made from paper, to highlight the vulnerability of coral and make its fragility visible.

Reeflight N0.2

For this new series, I made several changes to the original design. I chose a round shape so the coral can be viewed from every angle, emphasizing its organic form and presence. I also developed different models a wall lamp, a ceiling lamp, and a table lamp so the pieces can fit into a variety of spaces and homes.

While the lamp shades are still made of paper to express the fragility of coral, I’ve updated the base to metal. This change adds strength and gives the coral the sense of protection it deserves.

Exploring a new way of working with light.

In this piece, the light doesn't sit inside the lamp, it surrounds it.
The lamp is no longer the source of light, but the object the light interacts with.
It’s not the lamp shaping the light, but the light shaping the lamp.
