Vanishing Reefs

Coral reefs are disappearing at an alarming rate, with predictions that they could be gone by 2050. This decline is driven by warming sea temperatures, overfishing, and tourism. But why is this so critical? Coral reefs are home to 25% of marine life and support millions of people who rely on them for food, income, and coastal protection.

What struck me deeply is how many people are unaware of the severity of this crisis and the far reaching consequences it holds for the environment and humanity. I felt compelled to raise awareness about the urgency of the situation.

This is why I created Vanishing Reefs an interactive installation. The experience is both moving and enlightening, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own impact.

If we, as humans, can cause such damage, we also have the power to fix them!

"Nature is not only found in living things. In fact, there is much to discover in the stones of the city. That’s why I also conducted research on urban fossils. I found this fitting for the installation because it deals with the theme of transience. This could also be the future of coral if we allow living nature to disappear."
