How can we connect with the water?
During my seminar Zwart Water, I explored visualizing water using water itself, creating patterns directly, not just through photography.
In this process, water became a collaborator, shaping the artwork alongside me. I chose this approach to highlight water’s life-giving presence, showcase its possibilities, and foster a deeper connection with it.
This idea became the foundation for an installation, where water takes center stage, presented almost like holy water. Visitors are invited to pour water into a bowl, engage with texts reflecting my personal connection to water, and experience prints created in collaboration with it.
These water prints record that connection and symbolize creating with nature rather than apart from it. Showing that living with water isn’t just necessary, it’s beautiful.

Dans met me, water
Als een golf die langzaam breekt
Daar tegen de kade
De dans die alles geeft
O, dans met me, water
Laat me draaien in je kolken
Maar hou me stevig vast
Want alleen samen wil ik dansen
De hele nacht lang

Zwart Water was created as part of a seminar at HKU, also titled Zwart Water. The seminar explored the black waters that once flowed through Utrecht. It inspired me to create a piece that reveals the hidden stories found within water and nature.
